Maggnificent Monday

This caption should read: "Shh. I'm trying to watch the game." We were at a restaurant that had the Red Sox game playing and Maggie was experimenting with how different things sounded with her fingers in or out of her ears while mesmerized watching the TV. It was pretty funny to be having a conversation and look over to find our daughter with her fingers plugging up our voices staring intently at the big game.

Maggie so much wants to be part of the party. She wants to be participant in what everyone is doing. When we laugh at a joke, she laughs too, even though she obviously can't follow the thread of the humor. She notices now when she has something different to eat for dinner, and complains about it. She wants to watch everything happen and get her fingers in on it too. She stares and mimics and follows and leads and is generally a part of the conversation.

She also likes to boss us around. Two of her favorite games are make the grownups nap and make the grownups look stupid. In make the grownups nap, she puts little stuffed ladybug toys on the floor (or recently actual pillows) and then points at one and calls a name. That person then has to lie on the floor with his or her head on the ladybug (or pillow) and pretend to sleep. (She is then free to go and do whatever activity she wants to. I think this is mostly the point of the game.) Make the grownups look stupid is most fun when played at a restaurant. It usually starts with her pointing to her nose and then calling out a name. That person then has to touch his or her nose, just like Maggie is doing. Play then proceeds to other body parts (mostly facial features and orifices) and other motions, like waggling and pulling and mussing and clapping and waving. She thinks it's great fun to see the adults with their hands above their heads, knowing that she made them go there.
