I know I promised I wouldn't say it again for awhile, but I think Tessa is working on teeth again. She's been clingy, touchy, easily frustrated, chewing a lot, and has a hard time focusing on nursing (especially on one side). The other day I swear I saw redness and even a little whiteness on her upper gums, but today I'm not noticing it as much. It's tough trying to get a look at those top teeth , and Tess isn't exactly inviting me in for a look-see. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. And hope she continues to sleep really well during the process. So far, so good. In fact, she's been going to 4 or later before waking up in the night. I definitely approve.
I'm in the midst of an experiment for Tessa's milk supply. She spits up so much, after nearly every feeding, that I decided to be responsible and see if there was something in my diet negatively affecting her. I tried no dairy for awhile. You're supposed to go for 4 weeks on a non-dairy diet, since those proteins can hang around in your body for so long. I went one week (feeling sorry for myself as everyone at the birthday party had pizza and cake, as Bill and Maggie had chocolate chip cookies for dessert and home-made granola for breakfast), and Tessa's spitting up got increasingly worse and worse. A friend who used to be a lactation consultant said her first suggestion would have been a no-greens diet, so that's what I'm trying now. On the first day of plan b, I had ice cream and cheese and Tess didn't spit up once. This is a little bit of a sad diet too, since the garden is producing buckets and buckets of kale, chard, lettuce, broccoli, spinach, cabbage, and kohlrabi greens every day. I am again feeling a little sorry for myself as Bill and Maggie dip garden fresh broccoli in our dinner hummus, but Tess is doing a bit better so I'll keep on keeping on. And hope I don't have to do dairy-free for reals or go to plan c: no wheat.
